Man Dead Following Car and Building Fire

Balsam Township (NNCNOW.com) --- One man is dead after a fire burned through a car and a building in Balsam Township.

According to the Itasca County Sheriff's Office, authorities received a call Friday night of a building and vehicle on fire along County Road 8.

Balsam Township Fire Department responded to the scene along with Sheriff’s Deputies and discovered a body in the vehicle driver’s seat when the fire was put out.

The body was identified as 68 year old Louis Stewart of Nashwauk.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Minnesota State Patrol and is coordinating the investigation with the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The case is still under investigation and no foul play is suspected.
