Man sentenced to jail for threatening kids with handgun

Grand Rapids, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A 19–year–old Hibbing man will spend the next year in jail for being a felon in possession of a firearm, along with two counts of second degree assault.

Seth Matthew James Nelson went to the Grand Rapids High School with a loaded handgun. While on school grounds he threatened two high school students.

The students told police that after a minor altercation in the parking lot they fled the area. The suspect followed them to an intersection where he showed them the gun and threatened to shoot them.

Officers arrested Nelson near the school with a .22 caliber handgun in his car. Six years of prison time for Nelson was stayed on the completion of one year in jail, along with ten years of probation.
