A 38-year-old Bigfork man is found dead near his snowmobile after his wife reported him missing Saturday morning.
The Itasca County Sheriff's Department says that Daniel Hollinday went out snowmobiling by himself Friday night December 28th, and had last been heard from around 9 p.m. that night.
Hollinday's wife called authorities Saturday morning at 10 a.m. to report her husband missing.
Sheriff's Deputies and Sheriff's Search and Rescue responded to the Bigfork area where the snowmobiler was from, and began staging for a search.
Around 11:30 a.m., the dispatch center received a call about a male body found next to a snowmobile.
Authorities responded to the Bigfork River in Liberty Township where the caller said they saw the man.
Deputies confirmed that the man found was that of Hollinday and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation at the scene indicates that the snowmobile hit a large rock on the shore of the river and Hollinday was thrown from the snowmobile into some smaller rocks on the shore.
