Grand Rapids, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - The Minnesota Timber Producers Association's 59th Annual North Star Expo kicked off Friday at the Itasca County Fairgrounds.

According to the Timber Producers Association, it's the biggest equipment show in the state.

"It is fun. Yes it is," said Vendor Arthur Frandsen.

Fun for the many vendors at the show comes not only from the crowds of potential buyers, but from the business they bring in.

"They come from all over here to come to the expo," said Frandsen,"When they get back they'll call you up and they'll say you know I like that machine can you deliver it.

"You can't keep up with all of it [developments in the industry] and once a year you can come here and catch up on what you need to know," said logger Cliff Shermer.

For 59 years the expo has been an annual get together for those in the timber industry. This year it includes more than $15 million in the latest industry equipment.

The expo runs through 2 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.
