Beltrami County, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Authorities have identified the man killed during a standoff with police at a home in Beltrami County on Wednesday.
34-year-old Miquell David Deppa was killed after exchanging gunfire with police.
The Sheriff's Office received a call just after 4:30 Wednesday afternoon from a home on the 9200 block of Spence Road in Liberty Township, of a male who was under duress and was armed with a loaded rifle.
Authorities say he was making threats about killing himself or law enforcement.
Deputies say a standoff ensued during which Deppa threatened to shoot the officers and fired several shots from inside the home toward the officers.
Deppa reemerged from the home just after 8 p.m., armed with a rifle which he pointed in the officer's direction.
A Beltrami County SWAT team sniper fired one round, injuring the individual, who then crawled back into the house. Several minutes later the individual broke out a window and emerged from the home once again.
Officers took him into custody and emergency crews began treating his injuries.
The man was airlifted to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo where he was pronounced dead.
No officers were injured during the incident, and two females inside the residence were able to flee the home and were brought to safety.
SWAT team member and Beltrami County Sheriff's Deputy Jeff Roberts was the only officer to fire his weapon. He is currently on paid administrative leave, which is standard protocol.
The BCA is investigating the shooting.
