Radar of the Grand Rapids K-9 unit receives bullet/stab proof vest

August 27, 2014 Updated Aug 27, 2014 at 5:36 PM CST

Grand Rapids, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A police dog named Radar received a well-deserved bullet and stab proof vest today thanks to an organization called Mighty Mutts.

In a letter to the editor of the Grand Rapids newspaper, a woman wrote that she was thankful that the Grand Rapids Police Department had added a new police dog to their unit, but she was concerned that 18 month old Radar did not have a safety vest.

That's when Mighty Mutts, which usually donates to animal shelters, stepped in to donate $1,200 so that Radar could be safely equipped.

Radar, who is still in training, sported his bullet-proof vest today for some pictures at the Grand Rapids police department.

Grand Rapids has had three police dogs in the past, but currently Radar is the only K-9 on staff.
