Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Senator Tom Bakk of Cook will become the next Majority leader of the Minnesota Senate.

He was elected by a unanimous vote during a party caucus meeting Thursday afternoon in St. Paul.

Following the vote Bakk received a standing ovation from his fellow DFL senators.

Bakk was first elected to the senate in 2002.

House DFL'ers are expected to choose Representative Paul Thissen to serve as speaker. Thissen was the minority speaker during the last session.

The DFL will gain control of both houses when the Legislature goes back in Session in January.
