Sibling Stabbing Leads to Standoff

Eveleth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with a stabbing that lead into a standoff at an Eveleth home Friday.

According to the Eveleth Chief of Police Timothy Koivunen, officers were called to a stabbing around 2 p.m. Friday along Shackelton Street.

The caller reported that he had just stabbed his brother.

Police were told that the victim had left the residence with his girlfriend and another friend, who were taking him to the Virginia Regional Medical Center Emergency Room.

The 20-year-old victim is bring treated for two stab wounds and is listed in critical conditions.

The caller told police that he was still inside the home and allegedly made threats involving a loaded gun.

Once on the scene, officers surrounded the home and were able to make contact with the suspect.

Around 2:45 p.m., the suspect exited the home on his own and was taken into custody without incident. The suspect is currently being held at the St. Louis County Jail pending 1st Degree Assault charges.

The Eveleth Police Department was assisted by the Gilbert Police Department, Virginia Police Department, and St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident remains under investigation.
