Ely, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Snow sculptors from around the country and the world will be making their way to Ely this weekend.

The snow sculpture symposium is part of Ely's annual Winter Festival.

During the event sculptors will create works of art from these giant blocks of snow.

The theme for this year's symposium is poetry and written word.

"Just as an example, somebody might carve something from a fable and then they would include the fable and there would be a scene depicted from that story," said Symposium Director, Chris Ellerbroek.

The sculptures are expected to be completed by Sunday.
