SOUDAN, MN (Northland's NewsCenter)---Minnesota's oldest iron-ore mine will receive a $50,000 recreation grant from the Coca-Cola- Live Positively initiative.

The Soudan Mine Underground state park won second place in this year's "America Is Your Park" campaign.

Soudan Park Manager, Jim Essig says the mine plans to use some of the money to build recreation shelters to benefit current and future customers.

New additions may include picnic shelters, information kiosks and a facility to host its geo-caching program.

More than 13 million votes were cast online across the country.

Oak Park in North Dakota won the top prize of $100,000.

Crews are continuing to repair the underground mine, burned in a fire, last March.

Essig is hopeful the mine will be open to school tours by the start of spring.
