St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The Senate Finance Committee approved a bill Monday focusing on data involved in current background checks for gun purchases.
The bill's author, Sen. Ron Latz, said the measure does not expand the types of transactions or crimes covered by background checks.
Sen. Latz said it does fill gaps in current data gathering involved in background checks. It also speeds up fingerprint and records processing.
The legislation will be heard on the Senate floor as part of a public safety omnibus bill.
Both House and Senate leaders previously said any gun control bills would be shelved this legislation session.
