Virginia, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The man who allegedly stabbed his brother in Eveleth has been charged with a felony count.

23 year old Luke Mathias Erkkila has been charged with 1st Degree Assault with Great Bodily Harm.

According to the criminal complaint, officers were called to the 1000 Block of Shackleton Street in Eveleth on the report of a stabbing. Erkkila allegedly was the one who called 911 and said that he had just stabbed his brother.

The victim, Erkkila's half-brother Kale Stratton was taken to the Virginia hospital by his girlfriend and another friend for stab wounds to his chest and the left side of his stomach. As of Monday, Stratton was listed in serious condition, but stable.

When officers arrived on the scene of the stabbing, Erkkila allegedly said that he had a loaded gun and was at the top of the stairs and would shoot anyone that came in the door.

Authorities set up a perimeter around the house, however Gilbert Police Chief Techar was able to talk Erkkila out of the residence. Erkkila was then arrested without incident.

Erkkila had to be transported to the Virginia Regional Medical Center due to what appeared to be self-inflicted injuries.

If convicted, Erkkila could spend up to 20 years behind bars or a $30,000 fine.
