Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Unemployment in northeast Minnesota took a nosedive in August.
According to data released by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, Duluth's unemployment rate fell from 8 percent to 7.4 percent.
Unemployment in northeast Minnesota as a whole dropped from 8.6 percent to 7.5 percent.
The drops are the result of the combination of private sector job growth and state employees returning to work after the government shutdown.
Statewide unemployment remains at 7.2 percent, and the national unemployment rate is 9.1 percent.
