United Taconite Mine Awarded For Protecting Minnesota Waters

Forbes, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Yet another mine owned by Cliff's Natural Resources has won a safety award in Minnesota.

This time United Taconite Mine (UTAC) in Eveleth and Forbes, MN won the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency’s Wastewater Treatment Facility Operational Award.

The mine earned this award because their facility did not exceed the waste limits outlined in their permit and inspectors did not find any significant agreement concerns with the facility. Also, United Taconite's monthly and annual reports were always sent in on time.

The general manager of United Taconite Santi Romani says that this award acknowledges the extra effort that the employees of UTAC put into their work so that their facility exceeds all levels of operation.

United Taconite’s wastewater treatment facility is used to treat the sanitary wastewater from the processing plant. This treatment facility replaced the old plant back in 2010.

Back in March, Northshore Mining won the 2011 Cliffs' President's Safety Award for the 10th time.
