Virginia, MN (NNCNOW.com)--- In a move that surprised many...the Virginia City Council has unanimously voted to oppose a plan for a co-located school building... encompassing the Mountain Iron-Buhl, Virginia, and Eveleth school districts.

Councilor Larry Cuffe said the council opposes moving the current school out of the city limits of Virginia... as it will have a significant economic impact on the city.

The council disapproves of the financing for the plan as well, because it will take IRRRB money away from an economic fund on the Iron Range.
The council has taken a stand, but it doesn't mean the school board will stop moving forward with the co-location project.

The $110-million dollar project calls for the consolidation of the quad cities school districts in a new building in Mountain Iron.

Supporters say the project would eliminate costly duplications throughout the districts, and provide the opportunity to offer an expanded curriculum.
