Virginia Mayor Steps Down

Virginia, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - Virginia Mayor Steve Peterson announced during Tuesday evening's city council meeting that he will step down as mayor.

Effective October 1st, City Councilor Larry Cuffe Jr., the city's acting mayor, will assume all mayoral duties for 30 days.

Cuffe Jr. says that the council will discuss plans to replace Peterson during their next meeting of the whole on September 18th.

He says that holding a special election and appointing someone to the position are options.
