DULUTH, MN (Northland's NewsCenter)---Eight women received Women in Leadership awards from the Northland's News Center Wednesday.

They were honored for their community leadership, spirit of volunteerism and overall strong character.

Community leaders from across the Northland attended the eighth annual Women in Leadership Luncheon at the Greysolon Ballroom.

The prestigious award is designed to recognize women who excel in their careers and provide positive role-models for our youth.

DFL candidate for Congress Tarryl Clark was at the luncheon and says each woman recognized today is truly a role-model for all.

"Certainly what I see in Washington right now is only 17 percent of congress are women," Clark said. "It's important that we have a variety of voices standing up. The women who are being honored here today are really great role models for all of us."

Each woman who was honored gave a brief speech after they received their award.
