Northland’s NewsCenter To Broadcast Minnesota Wild Hockey Games

By KBJR Manager

The Northland’s NewsCenter is excited to announce the addition of Minnesota Wild Hockey to its programming line up. Beginning with the Wild traveling to Vancouver on November 16th, the Northland’s NewsCenter will air a total of ten games—five on CBS 3 and five on My 9, the My Network TV affiliate serving Northeast Minnesota, Northwest Wisconsin and the Iron Range. The complete broadcast schedule is included below.

“Hockey has long been a great tradition here in the Northland and the opportunity to bring professional hockey to our audience is one we are truly excited about,” said David Jensch, vice-president and station manager of the Northland’s NewsCenter. Jensch adds, “We’re able to share these games with fans that may not normally be able to see professional hockey on television.”

This fall, Northlanders will be able to see one of their own skating for the Wild. Tom Hansen, Northland’s NewsCenter’s sports director said, “the timing is terrific with Duluthian Sean Hill joining the team. Hansen adds, “Local hockey fans will be able to see a former Duluth East Greyhound represent the state of Minnesota right here on the Northland’s NewsCenter.”

This will be the first time professional hockey will be broadcast over-the-air in the Northland. These ten games will be exclusive to CBS 3 and My 9—no other cable or satellite networks will carry these games locally. The first televised game is set for November 16th at 9:00 p.m. on CBS 3—immediately following the Christmas City of the North Parade which will be seen on NBC 6.

The Northland’s NewsCenter recently began airing University of Wisconsin-Superior hockey games on My 9. Jensch recalls “we’ve been working with the Wild on this for quite a while and we’re just happy that we we’re able to put together a deal that will help satisfy the Northland’s desire for more hockey.” Jensch adds, “It’s the job of a television station to provide good, local programming and by airing these games we know we’re bringing the Northland good, local programming.”

CBS 3 (KDLH-TV) is seen over the air on channel 3, digital channel 3.1 and local cable channel 4. My 9 (KBJR-DT 2) can be seen over the air on digital channel 6.2 and on local cable channel 9.
