UMD Hockey Program Gives Back To Iron Range

For the past few weeks, the UMD hockey program has been collecting non perishable items for local food shelves.

And they recently delivered the collection to the Iron Range as Chris Buckley Reports.

Wednesday morning, representatives from the school's athletic department made a delivery to Hibbings food shelf.

"Any time around the holiday season it's all about the spirit of giving, we're trying to do our part at UMD and the Iron Range has always been a good friend to bulldog athletics, and this is one way we could help them out in a time of need."

The department stepped up to help after hearing the Hibbing food shelf was in need of donations.

Which were accepted at both men's and women's games over the past two weekends.... and contributions came from all over.

"There's a lot of people that participated in this, the fans that came and watched men and women's hockey, the pep band got involved, but the fans were the ones that really did it."

Representatives with the Hibbing food shelf say donations are up this holiday season... they're getting donations from all over as well.

"I want to thank all the people from the cities, from Duluth, for sending up food and donations, we really appreciate it, and we hope that people in the northern area donate too, all our prayers go out to you."
