Superior Mayor Dave Ross Gives His State Of The City Address

By KBJR News 1

Tonight, Superior Mayor Dave Ross gave his fifth State of the City Address.

After five years in office, Superior Mayor Dave Ross plans to continue his vision for the city.

In his State of the City Address one of the key points he focused on is the city's budget.

"Last year, the council passed a first ever plan for the city to be debt free in 12 years. The council has decided to cut up credit cards and save taxpayers 2.8 million dollars a year in debt service when we reach our goal," said Superior Mayor Dave Ross.

Some of the biggest challenges Mayor Ross sees for the future of Superior are the underutilized bus system and the health care crisis.

"Every year, America ignores the ever-growing cost of health care, threatening the vitality of the middle class. We will slowly impoverish ourselves with this ever-increasing burden. I have challenged our finance director to create a menu of options to reduce our costs," said Mayor Ross.

Even though the city is struggling in some areas, Mayor Ross says Superior is flourishing as he plans to continue improving the city's infrastructure and aging housing stock.

"Over $800,000 in new sidewalks is a big down payment toward re-building our city's infrastructure," said Mayor Ross.

Many people say they were captured by the Mayor's address, especially when he recognized the efforts of those in the community.

"I thought the speech was absolutely wonderful, very inspiring, very motivating, and very hopeful for this city," said Superior resident Glenda Pede.

"He's very positive; very upbeat attitude and I think that carries over to the crowd and the general feeling of Superior," said Superior resident Mark Casper.

Superior Mayor Dave Ross also acknowledged Duluth Mayor Don Ness at his State of the City Address.

Mayor Ross says he is looking forward to working with the new Mayor.
