Police Call Early Morning Fire in Duluth "Suspicious"

By KBJR News 1

Police are calling an early morning fire in Duluth suspicious.

Fire officials responded to 119 W. 2nd Street shortly before 5:30 Sunday morning.

When they arrived at the 3-story vacant apartment building, flames were visible on the second floor.

Several witnesses reported a suspicious male coming from the area of the fire.

Police officers later located a "person of interest" who was requesting treatment from a local trauma center for smoke inhalation and minor cuts and burns.

The fire was dangerously close to the Best Western Downtown Motel, but was quickly contained and no evacuation of the motel was necessary.

A police arson investigator is conducting preliminary investigation, which is currently ongoing.
