Duluth Police Investigate E-mail Scam At Technology Village Parking Ramp

Duluth police are investigating an e-mail "phishing" scam that has been discovered involving a remote computer that serves the Technology Village parking ramp.

Someone recently illegally gained access to the computer and used it to contact victims who were asked to provide their credit card information.
If you used your credit or debit card at the Technology Village ramp pay station within the last 30 days, you should check with your bank to make sure there has been no unauthorized access.

This is a "precautionary measure" as it has not yet been determined whether credit cards used at the ramp pay station have been compromised.

If you discover you've been a victim, call police.

The City of Duluth has promised an immediate and full security review of the City computer system.

What they aren't telling us is that if this information was compromised, it may be months, or even years before the thief actually uses this information. By then people won't be "watching" their cards like they are now. This is even more likely if the thief is someone local.
