MN Gov Doesn't Support Bill Funding Study On Mesothelioma

By KBJR News 1

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty says he doesn't support a bill funding a study on mesothelioma.

Our partners at the Mesabi Daily News report, Governor Pawlenty told Iron Range Legislators he does not support the bill because the source of the funding is wrong.

Money would be taken out of the Worker's Compensation Fund.

The agency in charge of the fund also feels the money should not be used for the study.

Representative Tom Rukavina disagrees with Governor Pawlenty.
Rukavina says the Worker's Compensation Fund is for worker's health issues.

Mesothelioma is classified as a worker's health issue.

Another option is to add on to the production tax on mining companies, which is not likely to happen.
