Two Harbors, MN (NNCNOW.COM) --- The beacon at Split Rock Light House will be lit Saturday afternoon to mark the anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

All 29 men aboard the freighter perished when the ship sunk on Nov. 10, 1975.

The lighthouse will close temporarily around 4:30 p.m. and the names of those who perished will be read to the tolling of a ships bell.

Following the ceremony, the beacon will be lit and the tower once again opened for visitors to tour.

It's the only opportunity each year when visitors can climb to the top of the tower and see the beacon lit and revolving.
