Hunting Expedition Ends in Tragedy

By KBJR News 1

A father and son hunting expedition in Minnesota - ended in tragedy - late Saturday afternoon.

Tony Klaseus and his eight-year-old son Hunter were out turkey-hunting in the Sibley County woods - just west of Belle Plaine.

According to officials - Klaseus told his son to stay on the edge of a field while the father went to chase some turkeys.

Hunter instead followed and came up about 20 yards behind his father, who mistook him for a turkey and fired his 12-gauge shotgun.

Sheriff Bruce Ponath says, "Obviously ... to say he was distraught is an understatement. That family is going through very hard times right now."

The eight-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Negligent homicide! If you can't positively identify what you are shooting at you shouldn't shoot it. How do you mistake an eight year old boy for a turkey?

Sheriff Ponath also went on to say that it was 18 years ago that another youth was shoot to death in Sibley Co. I know first hand...it was my son. I can really feel for the family.
