Bridge Safe, Yet Repairs Are Needed

By KBJR News 1

MN-DOT'S decision to close two lanes of the Blatnik Bridge seems to have reverberated through out the Twin Ports.

Experts say the bridge is safe.

The concern stems back to when the Blatnik Bridge was resurfaced and widened in the early-ninetys.

Road calculations were thrown off, and the gusset plates are currently not up to spec.

Many drivers we spoke with are pleased that the D-O-T is taking the issue so seriously:

"I think it's a good thing that they are fixing the Blatnik Bridge. It'll be a lot of inconvenience for a lot of people but they got to improve it because the cities and it could end up like that bridge. We could have a dead count like they had

MNDOT will be reinforcing the gusset plates... and officials say the process may take until mid-June.

There is no way that they can say that it's safe yet it still needs to have work done on it... What a crock... Look what happened to the I-35 bridge...
