WI Senate Approves Great Lakes Compact

By KBJR Manager

The Wisconsin Senate has ratified the Great Lakes Compact - again.
The compact is designed to block arid states from taking water from the lakes.

It needs approval from all eight Great Lake states and Congress before it takes effect.

Four states have approved the deal so far.

The Democratic-controlled Senate approved the plan in March, but Assembly Republicans refused to vote on the compact before the regular legislative session ended.

A compromise brought Governor Jim Doyle's call for a special session last month to pass the deal.

The compact goes next to the state Assembly
