A Northland woman was honored today at the 60th annual Port Cities Luncheon.

The 2008 woman of the year award is given annually to a woman who exemplifies outstanding community work and volunteerism.

"These women are really leaders in our community and they make a difference in our community. Many of them have held many positions besides volunteering."

Eleven women were nominated for the award... Mary Evans was selected for the honor.

Evans has been active in the Duluth community since 1960.

She currently holds the position of chair for the Duluth Woman's Club, Vice President of the Superior Syndicates Stock Club, treasurer for AFS and many other such volunteer positions.

Mary is truly a lifetime volunteer! She has volunteered on uncountable boards as a volunteer! This is "one amazing women," considering being a cancer survivor! Mary has truly made a difference in this region, nationally, and at the state level! Mary is a hero!
