The Twin Ports may only offer a few months a year suitable for bike riding, but hundreds of Northlanders depend on their cycles to get them around.

As part of national "Bike to Work Day", Duluthians peddled alongside the 2-wheel bandwagon.

It's part of an initiative to save gas, reduce pollution, and increase physical activity.

Danny Cosgrove travels about 10 miles a day to his job at Minnesota Power and says he enjoys trading 5 dollars a day in gas for the free transportation, "I think today might be a good day to spark off a whole summer of doing this."

Savannah Villa who also bikes to work adds, "Not only for the environment, but to save on gas, save on costs."

The DTA offered free fares for all "Bike & Bus" riders throughout the day.

In an effort to raise awareness of biker's rights, a collective known as Critical Mass takes a group ride through the city.

The cyclists meet the last Friday of every month at 5 p-m- at Leif Erickson Park in Duluth.
