Hundreds Evacuated from Hugo

By KBJR News 1

Dozens of homes were destroyed and hundreds more were evacuated in Hugo and two storms swept through the St.
Paul suburb.

Mayor Fran Miron says 300 to 400 homes have been evacuated
because of safety concerns.

Officials are worried about downed power lines and leaky gas lines in the area.

The City of Hugo set up a shelter at an elementary school in the
area, and hundreds flocked there initially to receive updates, get
food and hear from the mayor.

But a spokeswoman for the American Red Cross says all but one of
those families have secured a place to stay with friends or family.

The Red Cross is putting that family up in a local motel.
