St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) - A Minnesota Senate Panel approved a gun bill Thursday that includes background checks for all firearms purchases.
The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 5 to 3 on a party-line vote after several hours of testimony.
Senator Ron Latz (DFL-St. Louis Park) says the bill is a compromise of other legislation currently on the table.
A House bill with bi-partisan support and backed by the National Rifle Association, would not expand universal background checks.
Some called the house bill a watered down version of another bill being carried by Rep. Michael Paymar (DFL-St. Paul).
