Des Moines, IA (Northland's NewsCenter/NBC News) - A surprise result from the Iowa Republican Caucuses.
The candidate of the GOP establishment, Mitt Romney, is being fought to a virtual tie by Libertarian Ron Paul and, surprisingly, Rick Santorum.
Tuesday saw a record turnout and less than a hour into the Caucuses, the Iowa Republican votes were coming in.
MSNBC.com reports Chairman of the Iowa Republican Party, Matt Strawn, announced Romney got 30,015 votes and Santorum received 30,007 votes out of a record turnout of 122,255. Texas Rep. Ron Paul finished third, at 21 percent.
