St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- With over 300 projects scheduled for the 2013 road construction season, MnDot officials say they hope to increase regional connections throughout Minnesota.

About $1.1 billion will be invested into improving highways, bridges and other state transportation infrastructure to ensure safety and mobility across the state.

“The transportation infrastructure is a key component to our state’s economy." says Charlie Zelle, MnDOT Commissioner. "This work helps ensure that motorists can continue to get to work, to recreation and that goods and services can get to us.”

Over 30 projects will take place right here in the Northland including continued reconstruction of Highway 1 between Ely and Tower, repairing Boundary Avenue in Duluth, reconstruction and repairs along the North Shore on Highway 61 and continued construction along Interstate 35 just south of Duluth.

For a complete list of road construction projects here in the Northland as well as statewide, you can log onto the Minnesota Department of Transportation's website.

MnDOT officials ask that drivers be alert as the road construction season starts and slow down in construction zones.
