Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) - A community is coming together Wednesday night in Superior to celebrate the birthday of a woman who was a friend and mother.

April Oles was eight months pregnant when 23-year-old Matthew Magdzas, a former National Guardsman, murdered her, their infant daughter Lila and their dogs before taking his own life.

The tragic incident happened in August of 2010.

A Facebook event is asking family, friends and complete strangers to light a candle at home to remember "an amazing woman who left us far too soon."

Her friend Angel Johnson, who created the event, said, "Another birthday without her and it still saddens me as it does many, but let's take this day and celebrate the amazing woman she was."

Oles graduated from Carlton High School in 2002, went to college at UW-Superior, and was working as an assistant cheer coach at Duluth East High School at the time of her death.

Oles would have been 29 years old.
