Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Organizers of the Beargrease are trying to return the start of the race to East High School as they set their sights on a January 26th race day.

According to Linda Nervick with the John Beargrease Sled Dog race, organizers are in the process of returning the start of the race to Ordean Field at East High School on January 26th, 2014.

Race officials are also scheduled to meet with Duluth Mayor Don Ness to discuss race details.

The sled dog race was in jeopardy when organizers cancelled the event due to lack of funding. However, earlier this week, a unanimous vote by the board of directors put the race into new hands.

Tone Coughlin, the current race director for the North Shore Inline marathon along with Jason Rice, who has been involved with Beargrease before, will take the helm of this year's race.

We will have more information on the continued talks for the 2014 John Beargrease Sled Dog race coming up on the KBJR 6 and Range 11 news at 6.
