UPDATE: Missing Boaters Found Safe in Apostle Islands

Knife River, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Four people believed to have been missing following a boating trip on Lake Superior have been located in the Apostle Islands and are safe.

Station Chief James Robertson of the U.S. Coast Guard in Bayfield confirmed that the family and their guest had been located on Sand Island near the Apostle Islands.

The U.S. Coast Guard, The Lake County Rescue Squad and the St Louis County Rescue Squad worked together Monday morning to search for the group after they were reported missing.

The four people, including a family of three and another young boy, left Silver bay Sunday afternoon en route to the Palisade Head area on the North Shore.

The family of a boy who was a guest on the boat at the time reported the party as missing after they had not heard from them into the overnight hours.

A search then commenced early Monday morning.
