Virginia Public Utilities Building Fire

By KBJR News 1

A fire this morning at the Virginia Public Utilities building left significant damage and kept firefighters busy throughout the afternoon.

Around 7:30 a-m the Virginia Fire Department responded to the fire involving roof materials approximately 9 stories off the ground.

The boiler that produces super heated steam in excess of 800- degrees was shut down for the firefighters safety.

Officials believe the fire may have been caused by insufficient clearance between roofing materials and the high temperature vent from that boiler.

Damage is estimated at 150- thousand dollars.
