Itasca Co. Authorities Find Body Of Missing Man

By KBJR News 1

Search and rescue crews have located the body of 54 year old Kenneth Paul "Le'Cocq" in Itasca County.

The Hill City man was found in about 9 feet of water about 15 miles south of Grand Rapids.

Crews started searching Saturday afternoon and found the body late Monday afternoon.

Officials found an empty canoe with fishing gear in it on Saturday afternoon after getting a call about a possible drowning.

It's now the seventh boating related fatality this year.

That's about average for this time of year, and with the big holiday weekend coming up, DNR officials are stressing safety on the water.

"Number one is to prepare your equipment before you start into the trip, make sure you get the right number and types of life vests for everyone, don't put an adult jacket on a child, for example."

Four of the seven fatalities this year involved canoes.

None of those victims were wearing life jackets.
