New Candidate For Jaros' Seat

By KBJR News 1

There's a new candidate in the running for Representative Mike Jaros' seat.

Marsh Stenersen, a Field Representative for American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, formally announced his candidacy for the district 7B seat which Jaros recencly announced he will vacate.

"I have a fire burning in my belly about workers on the issues confronting workers and I'm at a stage in my life where I've been dealing with these issues for so long - I figure now is the perfect opportunity to get involved," Stenersen said.

Stenersen, a Democratic-Farmer-Labor activist, plans to tackle issues of health care and the dwindling quality of long-term care in Minnesota.

"We used to lead the nation in quality long-term care. For the last 18-years, since 1990, we have systematcially starved the providers and the workers in this industry, to the point that we can't staff facilities anymore," Stenersen said, "and it isn't because we don't have good people working, it isn't because we don't have good administration, it's that we don't provide the resources anymore to provide long-term care - quality long-term care."

Stenersen will run against Duluth City Councilor Roger Reinert and Residential Designer Brandon Clokey, who announced their candidacies last week.
