NEW LAWS IN EFFECT JULY 1ST

By KBJR News 1

July first marks the day when many new laws go into affect. Many of the laws passed have to do with reducing the state budget; for example, funding to the Pollution Control Agency was reduced by more than 600–thousand dollars.

Budgets were slashed across the state, with most government sectors being affected.
Some of the hardest hits have been in Public Safety, which includes the court system and transportation budgets which saw a more–than–21–million dollar reduction.
16–year–olds are now able to donate blood thanks to the efforts of Joe Gibson, a high school student who saw how his grandfather improved after receiving a transfusion as part of his cancer treatment.
Teens looking to donate blood will have to have their parent's or guardian's permission in the form of a written note.
The state also has enacted some protection for reservists business owners serving oversees.
The new law offers 60 days of protection from civil court proceedings if the reservist is deployed.
The courts may also issue additional stays if the situation warrants such an action.
And swimming pool owners will now have to report to the health department about the status of their pool drains.

The law was enacted in response to the death of Abigail Taylor who died after sitting on a pool drain.

According to the law, pool drains must be installed properly and not broken.

Vehicle owners will also have to pay almost 2 dollars more when applying or renewing, licenses, tabs, titles, I–D cards, and permits.
The funds this charge will raise will go toward a computer upgrade for State Driver and Vehicle Services.

WHY DON'T WE TAKE MONEY FROM ALL THE HIGHER UPS SALARIES AND CUT THEIR PAY- WHO ARE GETTING PAID A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT BEFORE TAKING MORE MONEY FROM THE PEOPLE YET AGAIN THAT CAN BARELY AFFORD TO LIVE AS IS DUE TO RISING GAS PRICES-WHICH ALSO I BELIEVE DOESN'T NEED TO BE HAPPENING-BUT WE ALL LET THE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS DO WHATEVER.
