By KBJR News 1

Parents of a soldier from South Dakota have confirmed that their son was killed in Iraq.

Superior, Wisconsin resident Bruce Vrooman told the Associated Press that his son, 28-year-old Army Staff Sgt. Jeremy Vrooman, died in an explosion Tuesday.

He had left for Iraq about six weeks ago.

The Department of Defense has not yet issued any information on the death.

Jeremy Vrooman grew up in South Dakota and had made a career of the Army.

He is survived by his wife and two kids.

His mom Lori Donahue of Sioux Falls says her son was proud to wear the Army uniform.
