Individual Pretends To Be City Worker To Gain Access To Home

The Duluth Police Department and the Department of Public Works and Utilities are asking citizens to be vigilant after an individual recently tried to gain access to a private home claiming to be an installer for the city's Automatic Meter Reading project.

Public Works says installers can be identified by clearly-identifiable company apparel and I-D badges indicating that they work for S.L. Serco, A.G. O'Brien or A- W- Kuettel companies.

Installers' vehicles will also carry signs reading "Contractor for the City of Duluth, Automated Meter Reading Project," with the City logo and the ComfortSsytems logo prominently displayed.

The Duluth Police Department advises citizens to ask the installer who visits their home to show their photo ID.

If an individual cannot produce such identification, deny access to the home and call 911 immediately.

This is something that will be hard to watch. I had A.G. O'Brien come out to my house twice, and both times it was not a A.G. O'Brien vehicle, they sub-contracted to someone with an un-marked vehicle. They did the work just fine, but it will be very hard to watch out for this.
