Community Notifed About Level 3 Sex Offenders

Duluth Police held a public notification meeting in West Duluth to inform citizens about two sex offenders that have moved into the city's Spirit Valley neighborhood.

Police say the offenders are 25-year-old Dan Rico Sims and 47-year-old Erick Elrick Thorson.

Authorities report that both men are level-three offenders, which are considered to be the most likely to re-offend.

Police say Sims has a history of forced sexual assault on strangers ages 13 to adult.

Thorson has a history of sexual assault on girls ages eight and 15.
Both individuals are living in the vicinity of 20th Avenue West and Superior Street.

...Hence the public notifications, news releases, etc. to make us aware, to educate us, and to help us protect ourselves and our kids. I'd rather know then be kept in the dark... secrecy is how these people operate. Are their offenses dispicable...yes indeed. However, so is driving drunk and permamently injuring or killing someone, invading a persons home, domestic abuse, murder... I don't see the rights of these offenders being taken away. KNOWLEDGE is a powerful tool. Thank you Duluth P.D.

I agree... If they are most likely to re-offend they should not be let out..they need to think about the children first and not the freedom of the sex offenders....
