Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - A fire at a Duluth apartment building early Tuesday morning caused $100,000 in damages.

Just before 12:30 a.m., firefighters were called to a porch fire at 1317 E 2nd Street. After they arrived, the fire spread to the second and third floors of the five-unit, three story building.

Every person in the apartment was evacuated without injury; however a cat died in the fire.

Fire officials say the front porch, a second floor apartment and a portion of the third floor attic were heavily damaged. Authorities say there was significant smoke damage to the entire second and third floor and water damage throughout the entire building.

Crews were on scene for more than three hours.

Several people have been assisted by the Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
