Over 27,000 veterans call Northeast Minnesota home.
To recognize the service of these brave men and women, The St. Louis County Historical Society is planning a new exhibit called "Generations of Service".
The more than 100–thousand dollar tribute will showcase various artifacts, letters and interviews from northland vets.

"Currently we don't have a single exhibit that talks about the story of what are local veterans have done, there're many local units that have served here locally.

Among the artifacts is a Korean War–era South Korean flag that was signed by the "B" company — a group of marines that fought at one of the Korean War's bloodiest battles.

"At the chosen reservoir it was like the battle of bulge in world war 2 because they were fighting in heavy snow conditions, below freezing weather you ever try walking up with snow up to your waist, in 25 below zero weather and fighting Chinese and north Koreans at one time they had 125–thousand Chinese against 5–thousand American marines."

Gulf War veteran John Marshall says it's important for people to remember the sacrifices veterans have made.

The freedoms and the liberties that we enjoy here in this country there is a price, for those freedoms and liberties and there're paid by veterans. We do what we do so others don't have to because what we experience is not always pleasureful it's horrific the carnage and it's important to support veterans and their interests and the veterans community. "

The funding for the project isn't completely secured yet and the historical society is asking for the publics help in raising 35–thousand dollars to complete the exhibit.

Among the other artifacts planned for the exhibit is a piece of wood from the Civil War, a Congressional Medal of Honor and an original ballot for Abraham Lincoln.
