BWCAW Fire Restrictions

By KBJR News 1

Beginning Thursday morning, August 21, 2008, the Superior
National Forest will prohibit the use of campfires and charcoal or
wood–burning stoves in the blowdown area inside the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

Use of campfires or wood/charcoal burning stoves will not be allowed
at any time in the restricted area. Gas or propane cook stoves will
still be allowed at all hours in the restricted area.

In addition, the Kekekabic Trail (east of Disappointment Lake) and
the Border Route Trail (with associated connecting trails) will be
closed to visitor use.

Forest Service officials are moving to this higher level of restriction
due to continuing dry conditions in the Arrowhead region. These restrictions will continue until further notice.
