Google is always coming up with new programs and add-ons, available for download... and now Google has launched a free web Browser.

It's been available since Tuesday at noon, but already it's taken 1% of the global browser market.

Iit actually looks more like an operating system than a web browser.

The homepage shows snapshots of the websites you visit most often.

And for Google... this new browser offers more than quick, convenient features... it gives the corporation a chance to compete outside the search engine industry.

"It will allow them to make inroads against Microsoft who I think is their biggest competitor in the meantime FireFox will probably be harmed by the shrapnel of the battle between the two," said Dan Thralow, an internet entreperneur.

Like Firefox, Chrome uses tabbed browsing... so it's easy to look at multiple websites at once.

You can also move these tabs around and easily create new windows.
And although the browser is already showing popularity, there's a little problem.

"People will have to take initiative to download it as opposed to say Microsoft internet explorer where it comes installed free on the computer so people will use that more I think because they have easy access to that browser," Thralow said.

So although Chrome may not make a dent in Internet Explorer's 70% of users... Mozilla FireFox could take a stab.

"Firefox has the same method of getting users which is that people have to go to the Firefox website, the Mozilla website and download it," said Thralow.

Another feature that may be interesting to husbands, wives, girlfriends and boyfriends... you can go into "Incognito Mode" so all the pages you visit don't get saved in your web history.
