Saturday Energy Fair

By KBJR News 1

This will be an energetic weekend in Duluth...there are all kinds of energy efficient events going on.

If you're interested in saving money or just learning more about saving the environment, this is the weekend for you.

Renowned environmental activist and polar explorer Will Steger will be at the DECC on Saturday and Sunday for the Live-Green Expo.

And right down the street at Bayfront Festival Park, the Lake Superior Energy Association and Sustainable Farmers Association are holding a free energy fair.

"We're gonna have five separate workshops throughout the day and they're gonna deal with a number of different topics anything from simple energy efficiency upgrades in the home all the way through, some more advanced retro fitting of homes for energy use," said Dave Stark, President of the Lake Superior Energy Association.

There will also be a few workshops on composting and how to obtain your energy and food closer to home.

About thirty-five vendors will be at the Lake Superior Energy Association expo from 9 to 4 on Saturday displaying solar panels, wind energy, and energy efficient housing designs.

"We have high hopes for attendance this year as high oil prices and energy costs are driving people to consider energy alternatives," said Alex Hard, Assistant Coordinator for the Energy Fair.

This is the fourth year for the Energy Fair which is combined with Harvest Fest.

In previous years about 9,000 people attended the combined events.

Music, and a Farmers Market will run throughout the day.

Minnesota Power, Fond Du Lac Community Tribal College and several other private companies provided funding for this annual event.

Organizers say rain or shine, the Energy Fair will continue.

Plus... most of the vendors will be under tents.
