Grandma's Minnesota Mile Race

By KBJR News 1

A 1- mile distance race is a far cry from the traditional 26- mile Grandma's Marathon, but racers from around the country turned out for the annual sprint.

A total of 413 people registered for today's Grandma's Minnesota Mile Duluth event which featured four separate divisions Minnesota Mile, Duluth Mile, All City Mile, and the Kids Mile.

The 1- mile course wound its way through Downtown Duluth.

Executive Director of Grandma's Marathon Scott Keenan says they put on other races for the community, "We get a lot of support from the community. This is one way we can give back to the community."

Christian Hesch of California won the men's title with a time of 4- minutes and 10- seconds.

Carrie Messner-Vickers, of Colorado, earned the women's elite division title with a time of 4- minutes and 43- seconds.

Both won more than a thousand dollars in prize money.
