AEOA To Run Duluth Senior Dining Next Year

By KBJR News 1

The Duluth City Council tonight removed another roadblock to selling Park Point land...and made an announcement about which agency will take over the senior dining program next year.

Duluth Chief Administrative Officer Lisa Potswald said the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency is expected to head the dining program beginning January first.

But the question lingers, what will happen to the quality of the program?

"The city can assure that public that we will make every effort to make that transitions as smooth as possible," said Potswald.

But what will happen to the number of senior dining locations.

"At this point there is no indication of any reduction in sites, any reduction in services," said Potswald.

In other action, two city councilors wanted to revisit their 'no' votes on reclassifying two parcels of Park Point Land for sale.
Councilors Jeff Anderson and Tony Cuneo said after rethinking the city's financial woes, they changed their mind.

"There has been no pressure from any developers or from the administration," Cuneo said. "This is a decision I make when I look at the numbers in the budget impacting the city."

Anderson echoed Cuneo's response.

"By changing the comprehensive plan in this matter, we are not cutting off the option that this property will be purchased by a preservation group," he said.

The resolution passed 6-3, but before the vote took place, councilor Sharla Gardner criticized her colleagues for their actions.

"It is disrespectful to the people of this community not just to the people of Park Point," Gardner said.

The council also passed a resolution to change the pay rate for the Deputy Fire Chief.

The council also review the 2009 budget and expects to approve it in December.
